Specialist Sports Colleges and School Sport Co-ordinator Partnerships
are intended as the “infrastructure” through which other programmes are
delivered.
- This
programme is not just about PE and School Sport. It is also about
affecting young people’s attitude to learning and having a positive
impact on whole school improvement (the QCA website has numerous
examples of this in practice).

SSCo Partnerships:
-
Families of schools that come together to enhance sports opportunities
for all (normally based around a Specialist Sports College “hub site”).
- A grant is received
that pays for a PDM; the release of one teacher at each secondary (upper and
middle) school for 2 days a week to take on the role of SSCo; and the
release of one teacher from each primary (lower) school 12 days a year to
undertake the PLT role.
- The partnerships aim
is to help schools to ensure that their pupils spend a minimum of 2 hours
each week on high quality PESS
- 6 strategic
objectives have been set:
- strategic
planning (develop and implement a PE/sport strategy)
- school liaison
(develop links)
- out of school
hours (provide enhanced opportunities for all pupils)
- school to
community (increase participation in community sport)
- coaching and
leadership (opportunities in leadership, coaching and officiating for
senior pupils, teachers and other adults)
- raising standards
(raise standards of pupils’ achievements)
